Summer Treats For Your Dog

Cool your dog down on a hot summer’s day with these treats:

Frozen Chicken Pops

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Directions:

  1. Whisk the yogurt and broth together until smooth.
  2. Spoon into an ice cube tray. Freeze for at least four hours or until frozen solid.
  3. Pop out one cube at a time and serve to your dog on a hot day.

Tuna Frosties

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup non-fat yogurt
  • 1 (7 ounce) can of tuna packed in water, not drained

Directions:

  1. Blend the ingredients together using a whisk or blender.
  2. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze for at least four hours or until solid.
  3. Feed to your dog one cube at a time.

*For bigger dogs you can freeze in small bathroom paper cups. *

Bacon-Cheese Dog Biscuits

* This is a recipe for dogs. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour, plus 1/4 cup as needed and little extra for rolling.
  • 1 cup soy flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat bran
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup (about six slices) cooked, drained, crumbled bacon.

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flours, wheat bran and cheese. Add the applesauce, water, egg and bacon. Stir into dough. If the dough is very sticky, knead in an additional 1/4 cup of flour.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and with a floured or non-stick rolling pin, roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Place biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until brown. Store in an airtight container in the refridgerator.
